Mugabe's Birthday bash riles critics in drought – hit Zimbabwe

March 01, 2016 Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe recently marked his 92nd birthday at a party organized by his supporters.

As was expected, the event drew criticism from opponents, who said the celebrations offended the modesty of ordinary Zimbabweans.

During the event, Mugabe thanked the ZANU-PF youth wing and thousands of party supporters for organizing the party. Also ninety-two balloons were released as the veteran leaders listened to poetry readings, songs and chants hailing him as an African icon and a visionary.

Mugabe then cut a giant cake made to look like the ancient ruins, for which Zimbabwe is named. The event had in attendance school children, foreign diplomats, government ministers and security chiefs.
