Nigeria has become the second largest market for Paypal
16th March 2015 Barely a year after it was launched in Nigeria, the people at Paypal have said that Nigeria has grown to become its second largest market in Africa, right after South Africa. According to Malvina Goldfield, Paypal’s Head of Business Development, in sub-Saharan Africa, the company is satisfied with the feedback from Nigeria. When Paypal started operations in the country last year, tens of thousands of people signed up for the service in the first week alone.
Malvina is quoted as saying “We are very happy to see that PayPal has been widely welcomed by Nigerians since the launch of the service in the country last year. Over time we plan to expand our service offering in Nigeria to include services that will lead to better experiences in online and mobile payment methods in Nigeria,”
The service has solved the issue of unavailable portal or portals to directly pay for goods abroad from Nigeria via the internet. Ten other countries also launched Paypal last year in addition to Nigeria.
