Nigeria Minister of Education Promises an End to Strike in Education Sector

5th Nov 2014 At an official visit to Federal government institutions in Lagos on Tuesday, Nigeria’s education minister, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau announced that the unfortunate and embarrassing issue of strikes in the education sector of the country is over. This is great news because strike actions have brought countless pains to Nigerian students and their parents and does no good whatsoever for the growth of academia and in the sector generally.

While visiting three tertiary institutions in the state namely Yaba College of technology, Federal college of education, Yaba and The University of Lagos the minister was quoted as saying “By the grace of God we have seen the end of strikes in our various institutions”. He also said he is set to carry out the needs of the sector through the governing councils since seeing the white paper of the NEEDS assessment report.

Speaking on the issue of the ongoing strike action by teachers of Unity schools, Mister Shekarau said the government already started fixing the challenges, and to this effect, have released over five hundred billion Naira into the sector. This is great news for Nigerian students and academia.
