Nigerian Super Falcons Wins the African Women’s Championship for the 7th time.

27th Oct 2014 Nigeria’s Super Eagles may be stumbling a bit as they attempt to qualify for the African Nations Cup, but there is no such issue with the female team, the Super Falcons. The outstanding women have just made history with their emergence as winners of the African Women’s Championship in Namibia, after beating the Lionesses of Cameroun two-zero in Windhoek, Namibia.

We say history, because this is their seventh win of the championship since its inception nine years ago. As can be imagined, both teams went at it hammer and tongs, each determined to make a mark, however, 2 first half goals from Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala ensured that this title went to Nigeria.

That wasn’t all, Desire Oparanozie won the golden boots award after scoring five goals and Asisat Oshaola who is fast becoming a soccer legend, was voted MVP. Cameroun didn’t go out empty though, Ngo Ndom from Cameroon was voted best goal keeper.

Our gold and silver winners will head to Canada next year for the FIFA Women’s World Cup with Cote D’Ivoire, winner of the 3rd place match against South Africa.

This victory is the second time Cameroun has lost a final match of the AWC to Nigeria, the first time was way back in 2004. Nigeria lost to Cameroun in the semi finals in 2012 and this victory by Nigeria is even sweeter as it totally avenges the Falcons loss.

Do we sense a soccer feud brewing?
