Nigeria’s Food Production Increases Leading to a Positive Decrease in Importation.

22nd Sep 2014 Nigeria’s food import bill has reduced from six point nine billion dollars in 2009, to four point three billion dollars by the end of 2013, reducing foreign exchange deficit. This is just one of the many happy progressions that the Ministry of Agriculture has made in the last few years. In addition to the reduced import, Nigeria’s national food production rose by 21 million metric tons between 2011 and 2014, surpassing the 20 million metric ton target set for 2015. In addition, the Minister of agriculture and rural development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina added that Nigeria met its millennium goal number one on hunger and malnutrition, two years ahead of the 2015 target set by the united nations. Way to go, Nigeria.
