Nigeria's new president pledges effort to free girls kidnapped a year ago.

July 23, 2015 The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has promised to see that the more than 200 schoolgirls abducted a year ago by Boko Haram militants are freed.

It is recalled that in March, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was sent to President Buhari’s inauguration, to emphasize U.S. interest in working with his government.

President Muhammadu Buhari promised to “spare no effort” in the defeat of Boko Haram, the organization that has killed thousands in their mission to create a caliphate in the north east of Nigeria. The militants are a good part of the meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington.

President Buhari, who said at his inauguration in May that victory could not be claimed until the Chibok girls were freed, is currently building up a base in Chad’s capital N’Djamena where regional forces can deploy and attack the militants.

He met his regional counterparts in Abuja last month to set up a joint military force against the terrorists, which tells of his intent to crush them early in his tenure.
