NO MORE ENGLISH

12 Mar 2014 In a surprise move, President YahyaJammeh of Gambia has announced that his country will drop English as its official language; according to a report from Modern Ghana.

Without specifying which of his country’s many languages would be adopted, he is quoted to have said “We’re going to speak our own language,” There are quite a few options though, with two in five Gambians speakingMandinka, andFula or Wolof being spoken by another 34 percent. Modern Ghana tells us that the minority Jula tribe, which the president speaks, is a Mandingo language most closely related to Bambara, spoken in nearby Mali.
