Platini provisionally banned by FIFA
Oct 12, 2015 FIFA President Sepp Blatter, UEFA’S Michel Platini and FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke were recently handed a 90 day suspension by the organization’s ethics committee. The committee also slapped former FIFA Vice-President Chung Mong-joon with a six year ban and a $100,000.
The statement released by the FIFA ethics committee said:
“The grounds for these decisions are the investigations that are being carried out by the investigatory chamber of the ethics committee,”
Last month, Swiss prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into Blatter over a Caribbean World Cup TV rights contract he signed. Prosecutors also made a probe into a 2011 payment of 2 million francs to Platini, whose status has described as a witness and an accused person.
