Rwanda gets new coach
25th March 2015 Twenty nine year old Johnny McKinstry from Northern Ireland is the new coach of Rwanda’s national football team. He was picked from a shortlist that contained former Chelsea assistant Jose Morais, Turk Engin Fırat and German Hans Michael Weiss, to land the job.
McKinstry now takes over from Englishman Stephen Constantine who quit the position in January to take over as manager of an India national side. He is now effectively in charge of grooming the Under-23 and Under-20 teams, and leading Rwanda in their qualification games for international competitions such as the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2018 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
John McKinstry is credited for leading Sierra Leone into the top 50 of the Fifa world rankings as well as for being the youngest manager in international football.
