SAFA to Announce the New Bafana Bafana Coach by 26th of June.
17th July 2014 Football this year has been as full of drama as a soap opera, with beleaguered coaches, wrestling players and more goals than anyone should have to contend with in a single match. One of the bits that kept catching our eye was the Will he- won’t he game played by South Africa and Nigerian Coach Stephen Keshi, after an equally dramatic period of uncertainty for Bafana Bafana Coach George Igesund.
Well now we know that George Igesund’s contract will not be renewed when it ends in August and it seems that SAFA is finally ready to put us out of our misery with the announcement by SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble that a new coach will be announced by Saturday the 26th of June.
Rumours are swirling of course but no one has anything definite to say. Former Bafana coach and current Iranian coach Carlos Queiroz, was tipped to be a hot favourite for the job, but reports indicate that he might be staying on in Iran.
Of course we all know that Stephen Keshi is also being considered for the role, but whether he will make the move or continue his love-hate relationship with the Nigerian football authorities remains to be seen. We also hearing whispers about current South African under-20 and under-23 coach Shakes Mashaba. But enough of the speculation! We’ll know soon anyway, so let’s just be patient and see what name is plucked out of the hat!
