Scandalous series ‘Fifty’ wraps up first season on EbonyLife TV with jaw-dropping finale

Last Thursday, the highly-praised drama and fan favourite aired its last episode of season one. So, how did it go?

Expectations were high for this series when it premiered in July, particularly because it was a continuation of Fifty, the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2015. Everyone had their favourite characters and was looking forward to what would happen next. I’m happy to say that it did not disappoint. It has been an exhilarating ride, from the first episode to last night’s finale.

In this season, we saw Lizzie get married to Francis, Tola and Kunle get divorced, Maria and Kunle lose their baby and Jamal begin the hunt for his father. And that’s not all: Maria and Kunle get married, Kate has a double mastectomy but still has cancer, Kunle’s forgotten twin daughters show up and Sade begins dating a gorgeous DJ.

The highlights of last night’s episode were: Chike going back to old, destructive habits – giving Francis ill-gotten money; Tola finally pulling off her fashion show; Jamal’s girlfriend recovering from her accident, albeit with an unfortunate case of amnesia; and Lizzie getting a very rude shock from Francis – finding out via a text message that he’s fled with all the money donated

for the opening of her women’s clinic. How on earth will she clean up the mess? How will Chike pay back the $5,000 and £5,000 he borrowed? Season two can’t get here fast enough!

Kudos to the writers of this series – they did an outstanding job. Fifty is unarguably a first-class television drama with high production values, racy storylines and some of Nollywood’s best talent. I hope that subsequent seasons will be just as gripping as this has been.

The second season of Fifty premieres in February 2018. Reruns of season one air on Sundays at 5pm WAT (6pm CAT) on EbonyLife TV, DStv 165.
