March 02, 2016 Team Peugeot recently announced that nine-time World Rally Championship winner Sebastien Loeb will be joining their organization in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
Loeb will link up with last year’s Rallycross Championship runner-up Timmy Hansen for the 2016 season.
Having racked up more rally championships wins than any other driver, Loeb’s latest move to rallycross confirmed the 42-year-old Frenchman’s status as the king of off-road driving.
Speaking about the move, he said:
“The cars are really very good to drive, the races are very intense with some very tight battles between the cars. With a lot of different races on the same day, it keeps pressure, it’s exciting. I like this atmosphere, I also always like to change, I did some rally, some touring car, the Dakar and now rallycross. I have the opportunity to test different driving styles and driving in different championships and I enjoy it.”
Also commenting on his soon-to-be partnership with Loeb, Hansen said:
“I’ve looked up to Sebastien Loeb my entire life. I was not so old when he started winning world championships in rally…I met him once to get his autograph but now to work with him has been incredible. We are working well together and to get some advice from someone like him is… I have a lot to learn, but I also think he has a lot of Rallycross specifics to learn from me and that’s how I hope we can bring the team forward together trying to push new limits and help each other forward.”
