South African Food retailers, Famous Brands planning on launching 41 new restaurants across Africa.

22 May 2014 South African Food retailers Johannesburg-listed food retailer, Famous Brands, has announced its intention to launch 41 new restaurants across its “brand repertoire” in Africa. The company has also shared its intention to begin operations in Ghana and Angola where it has no operations.

The company is also looking at increasing its operations with its acquired investments by opening 10 more Mr Biggs restaurants in the next year. Last year, Famous Brands acquired a 49 percent stake in UAC Restaurants, a wholly-owned unit of UAC that houses the Mr Biggs brand; Mr Biggs is the biggest food franchise brand in Africa, north of the South African border.

Famous Brands has traded on the African continent for almost 20 years and is currently present in 16 countries. In the year ended February 2014, the African division posted an increase in system-wide sales of 32.5 percent.
