South Korean, Chinese deputy nuclear envoys meet over North Korea
Sep 9, 2015 China’s deputy nuclear envoy recently met with his South Korean counterpart in Seoul to discuss the halted nuclear talks with North Korea.
Xiao Qian, the Chinese Deputy Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs and deputy envoy sat down with Kim Gunn, Director General for North Korean Nuclear Affairs to proffer ways to resolve tensions over North Korea’s nuclear programme and return the nation to the six-party talks.
The meeting came on the heels of President Park Geun-hye’s trip to China last week, during which she attended a military parade in Beijing and the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of World War II in Asia.
During the visit, the South Korean leader met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and called for the resumption of the multilateral nuclear talks with North Korea, following several failed attempts to restart the talks that were inaugurated six years ago.
