26th June 2014 While Nigeria’s Super Eagles battle for a place at the World Cup, there seems to be a lot of “Will He, Won’t He”, going on between Nigeria and South Africa. The subject of controversy? Stephen Keshi.
A couple of days ago, the news broke online that Stephen Keshi had signed up for a lucrative 2 year deal with South Africa that would see him become Bafana Bafana’s new coach. Reports claimed that the Coach would fly to South Africa immediately after the tournament to sign the dotted lines and would then begin the job of transforming the South African team.
However, the South African Football Authority has released a statement completely refuting this information. They concede that Stephen Keshi is on the list of coaches being considered for the position but state emphatically that a decision will not be reached until after the tournament.
This is what we do know for sure –1. Bafana Bafana Coach Gordon Igesund will not be offered a new contract after his current contract expires in August. 2. Stephen Keshi still has one year on his contract. 3. He is on the list of possibilities to replace Gordon Igesund.
As to the rest of it, let’s just ignore the speculations and enjoy the World Cup; EL Reports will definitely let you know once we have a conclusive answer.
