Swiss police arrest two as FIFA corruption scandal deepens

Dec 07, 2015 Swiss police recently arrested two FIFA officials for allegedly taking millions of dollars in bribes linked to soccer TV rights.

The unnamed officials were taken into custody pending extradition, after pre-dawn raids were conducted at the order of the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to Switzerland’s Federal Office of Justice:

“The high-ranking FIFA officials are alleged to have taken the money in return for selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments in Latin America, as well as World Cup qualifying matches,”

FIFA’s ethics committee has routinely suspended the indicted officials, pending investigation.
