Togo sets April 15 for their elections

2nd March 2015 2015 will see many countries in West Africa observing elections and Togo will be one of them. The nation has finally set April fifteen this year as the date for their presidential elections, after delays and objections to President Faure Gnassingbé’s possible nomination for another term.

After the announcement of the April 15th date, ruling party spokesman, Gilbert Bawara, mentioned that is was quite likely that President Faure Gnassingbe will be nominated for a third term. However, opposition spokesman Eric Dupuy has countered the statement, saying that for Gnassingbe, who has been president since 2005, running for another term in office would amount to a denial of democracy in the West African country.

About 7 opposition candidates are running for the position of President of Togo, so it does look like April will be a very interesting month for the country.
