28th Oct 2014 Tony O. Elumelu a Nigerian banker, philanthropist and chairman of Heirs Holdings and Tony Elumelu foundation, has announced the launch of The Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund. Launched by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan and other notable figures, the empowerment fund for disaster management, aims to revitalize the economies of post conflict and disaster communities around Nigeria. The Fund is managed and funded by The Tony Elumelu Foundation and is expected to create economically sustainable and growing units out of areas and communities that have been hit by conflicts, hazards and disasters through creation of opportunities and empowerment of people from these affected communities, while helping them to rebuild their lives and business ventures. President Jonathan, who lauded the initiative, said “Rehabilitating distressed communities will require interventions not just from the government, but also from the private sector. Therefore, I am pleased to see that Tony Elumelu, one of our private sector leaders, stepped up in a big way, by making a major contribution to the Victim Support Fund and that his effort did not end there as he has now created The Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund.”
Way to go Mister Elumelu.
