March 03, 2016 Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham’s coach recently dismissed the notion that his side is favorite to win the English Premier League.
Second-placed Tottenham are currently chasing their first league title since 1961, while table toppers Leicester City are seeking their EPL title in their history.
Leicester’s Claudio Ranieri had earlier asserted that Spurs stood a better chance to become champions. However, Pochettino responded saying that his side is the only team in the title race not feeling the heat.
“I think that we are in a good place but for us it’s always the same: to try to win the next game. For me, they (Leicester City) are on the top, they have the pressure too like all the teams that are below. But we don’t feel that, only for us it’s important to keep our level, our fitness, our mentality and we’ll see what happens. It’s too soon to start to speak about the end of the season,”
According to top sport pundits, Leicester and Spurs are joint favorites to win the league following Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.
Pochettino then went on to say:
“We are in a position that you cannot hide, we are second on the table. I think the dream for all professional players is to achieve big things and we are close off Leicester, only two points. But they (Tottenham’s players) know – the most important thing – they know to keep our position and fight for our arrival at the end of season in the same position or better, on the top, we need to give our best every day and every single training session and every game. This is the more important thing,”
