12 Feb 2014 – The Zambezian shares with us that Tunisia is celebrating the adoption of a new constitution; three years after the revolution. A symbolic ceremony at the national assembly, where the constitution was adopted especially highlighted Tunisia’s positive as the charter is widely regarded as being the most progressive in the region.
French President Francois Hollande, hailed it as an example for other countries and is quoted as saying “The constitution honours your revolution and is an example for other countries to follow,”
Mehdi Jomaa, the new prime minister, hailed the charter’s adoption but warned that it should not make the nation forget the importance of the challenges to come. He is quoted as saying “We are committed to completing the process and preparing for free and fair elections,” referring to the parliamentary and presidential polls he is tasked with organising later this year.
