UEFA members arrive for emergency meeting over Platini ban
Oct 20, 2015 Michel Platini’s bid to become FIFA president recently came under discussion at an emergency meeting of UEFA officials in Nyon, Switzerland.
Platini, who was first elected as UEFA president in 2007 with two re-elections, has repeatedly said that FIFA’s corruption scandal made his stomach turn. However, the tables turned when he was slapped with a 90-day ban by FIFA’s ethics committee pending investigation into corruption charges.
UEFA’s executive committee and representatives from its 54 members converged at the House of European Football in Nyon to decide whether to continue backing Platini as a FIFA presidential challenger or to quietly withdraw their support.
