Uganda to boost technical education in the country

4th Feb 2015 In a bid to improve and promote technical education in the country, Uganda’s minister of education, Dr. Twaha Kaawaase, has announced government’s plans to build more vocational centers and technical institutions across the nation.

The minister made the announcement at the 9th graduation ceremony of Buganda’s Royal Institute of Business and technical education, where over nine hundred and thirty three students were awarded Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines.

Dr. Kaawaase stated that the government has a grand plan to build vocational institutions across the 18 counties of Buganda, but will first begin with the five counties which have already marked possible locations for the project.

In his address, he is quoted as saying “We shall first deal with Mawogola, Kyaggwe, Butambala, Kyaddondo and Bulemeezi because they have already identified premises for construction but other county chiefs should also start looking for locations,”

Also speaking at the event was the prime minister of the kingdom of Buganda, Charles Mayiga who affirmed that “the Kingdom is at the moment more concerned with the promotion of technical education in the struggle to curb down on the rate of unemployed youths around Buganda.”

Charles Mayiga noted that technical skills create job opportunities and encouraged youths to be innovative and diligent, saying this will yield results, and restore the glory of their country.

To this effect, he is quoted as saying “Innovation and creation is one of the pillars we are looking at to revive our lost summit but if you graduates top up that with diligence and integrity, we shall rejuvenate Buganda’s glory,”

The ceremony also launched a new lecture block which was commissioned by the minister.
