Unesco sends a team to Madagascar to verify a treasure found at sea.

May 19 , 2015 The United Nations has confirmed that they will be sending a team of experts to Madagascar to assess a claim by underwater explorers that they have found treasure and the wreck of a ship belonging to the infamous pirate, Captain Kidd who died in 1701.

Ulrike Guerin, a specialist in underwater heritage for the UN cultural agency UNESCO, said experts will examine artifacts at the site where American explorer Barry Clifford had been operating. Clifford had said he found a silver bar over a week ago that he believes belonged to William Kidd, who raided ships in the late 17th century. Clifford presented the bar to Madagascar’s president during a ceremony on the country’s Sainte Marie Island.

A treasure hunt in the 21st century, we’ll keep our ears open for updates!
