UNWTO announces Zimbabwe as one of the best tourism destination in the world
10 June 2014 Zimbabwe has been honoured by the European Union following its successful co -hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference with Zambia.
Ventures Africa tells us that a European Union delegation, led by the President of the European Union Council on Tourism and Trade, Anton Caragea, announced Zimbabwe as one of the best tourism destinations in the world. Mr Caragea stated that the delegations main priority was to announce Zimbabwe as the best tourist destination for 2014 because of its diverse culture and natural beauty.
The UNWTO was co-hosted by Zimbabwe’s resort town of Victoria Falls and Zambia’s Livingstone town in August 2013. It is hoped that this award, especially following the successful hosting of the Tourism conference, will once again highlight Zimbabwe’s tourism potential to the world. Tourism currently contributes 6.5% to the national GDP and the country is pushing to see this contribution increased to 15% this year.
