NEW YORK, NY – WomenWerk announces “The Century of the African Woman” Forum and Gala in honor of International Women’s Day. The two-part celebration offers inspiring opportunities to learn, invest, and network on Saturday, March 8th in New York City, NY. The Forum will take place from 10am to 4pm at 25 Broadway, 7thFloor in lower Manhattan, and the Gala will take place at 7:00pm at 524 West 59th Street, 6th Floor in midtown Manhattan.
The Forum brings together transformational women with global perspective on modern issues. WomenWerk is proud to host renowned author Taiye Selasi, CEO and inventor Jessica O. Matthews, fashion mogul Adiat Disu of Adiree and Africa Fashion Weeks, and Professor Abena Busia, among others. Panel topics include: the successes and challenges women face, a debate about feminism, opportunities for collaboration and social impact, and an inter-generational roundtable. WomenWerk is pleased to announce its hallmark Gala celebrating the rich and positive contributions of African women across the globe. The event will feature a VIP cocktail reception, live entertainment, and WomenWerk’s most prominent international supporters. Opening remarks for the evening will be made by Mimi Alemayehou, Executive Vice-President of Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the United State’s Development Finance Institution. Headliners for the event are Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, current Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy of Nigeria and former Managing Director of the World Bank, President Bill Clinton and The Clinton Foundation headquartered in New York, Mo Abudu, Founder and CEO of Ebony Life Television, Africa’s first black-owned global entertainment network, and Dr. Mehret Mandefro, President of media house Truth Aid and winner of a 2014 Sundance Film Festival Award.
