Thousands take part in a dragon boat contest in Taiwan.

June 30, 2015 In celebration of the traditional dragon boat festival in Taiwan, thousands of racers took part in a dragon boat contest on a local river in Taipei on Friday, June 19 in the Da Jia River. More than 250 teams with around 6,000 racers participated in the annual competition.

For some participants; this was more than a rowing competition; team leader Chen Huo-Mu, who is also the director of Taipei city hospital department of breast surgery said

“We have more than 30 people who have recovered from breast cancer surgery, as well as our photograph team and some of our staff. Altogether we have around 50 or 60 people. Our purpose is to achieve a good result and have a healthier life (through taking part in this race),”

The highest prize for the race is 16,666 US dollars.
