Philippine female senator announces plan of running for president

Sep 21, 2015 After several months of speculation, Senator Grace Poe recently announced her candidacy in the Philippine 2016 presidential elections. Poe made the announcement months after topping the latest presidential preference surveys by both the Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia.

The 47 year old made her announcement in front of her family and supporters at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

While acknowledging the present administration’s work in rebuilding the public’s confidence in leadership, Senator Grace Poe reminded her supporters that she will be running as an independent candidate since she belongs to no political party.

Poe, who is an adopted daughter of Philippine late famous actor Fernando Poe Jr, is the third person to officially declare their intentions for the presidential race.
