Suarez wants more trophies following World Club Cup victory
Dec 23, 2015 Fresh off the heels of a world club cup victory, Barcelona striker Luis Suarez said his team is looking to bag more trophies.
During the tournament, the Uruguay forward took his tally to 24 goals in as many games this season.
Speaking in a post-match briefing, Suarez said:
“When we came to participate, we came to become number one. We are glad to have achieved that goal. The title of FIFA World Cup champion is important and we want to continue to capture more titles.”
The European champions fielded six South American players, and were especially dominant in the second half.
Barcelona’s coach Luis Enrique said he was very delighted to win the trophy, adding that he looks forward to celebrating both Christmas and the victory with his family back home.
“I am very happy, very happy. It has been a long time since I left home but now I will be able to go back and celebrate Christmas and the victory with my family.”
On the other side of the bench, Marcelo Gallardo, manager of Club Atletico River Plate said:
“I’m bitter and angry at being defeated, it hurts to lose. But I would like to salvage some of the positives that we’ve had in the past year and a half whilst I’ve been working at the head of this team. We’ve achieved a lot of important things, sadly this was going to be the icing on the cake. To reach this stage was a dream and it was a competition that got us very excited.”
