Switzerland to return $380 million to Nigeria

20th March 2015 And still on Nigeria, an official of the Switzerland government has said the Swiss will return about three hundred and eighty million dollars allegedly looted by former Nigerian military Head of State, Sani Abacha. Switzerland had previously returned seven hundred million dollars after appeals from Nigeria. This payment will end a 16-year case against the Abacha family.

President Abacha until his death in 1998 was a subject for several sanctions worldwide because of some of his less than social actions. Soon after his death the new leaders of Nigeria asked Switzerland to help to recover two point two billion dollars that he was said to have stashed in bank accounts in Europe. The transfer will take place under the watch of the World Bank.
