The British Council announces the winners of its Through my Eyes competition.

22 May 2014 The British Council has announced the winners of its Through my Eyes competition. A report by Metropole Magazine tells us that the winners, Mrs Aisha Augie-Kuta, a photographer and Ms Onyinye Muomah, a writer, received their £2,000 cheque at the Council’s premises in Abuja for their entry Hajia’s Bad Day.

The winners said that their mothers were the inspiration for their entry which tells the story of a female taxi driver and added that the point was to portray women in a positive light. The pair are quoted as saying that they hope to publish a table-book in the future and hold photo exhibitions.

“Through My Eyes” is an online exhibition that provides an opportunity for young people in Nigeria to stimulate debate in their communities through art
