U.N. hopeful for peace in divided Cyprus

Jan 25, 2016 U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently said that although some issues still remain, he is hopeful that leaders Cyprus will find a solution to unite the divided Mediterranean island.

Ban met with the leaders of Cyprus, who earlier made a historic joint appearance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

Speaking after a lunch he hosted for the two leaders, Moon said:

“Significant progress in this leader-led process of the past 8 months, demonstrating that with the political will , it is possible to reach an understanding on all issues. At the same time, it is also clear that a number of sensitive and difficult issues still remain. I encourage the leaders to capitalise on the current positive momentum. It will be crucial as they move toward to tackle outstanding issues and close the different chapters. I encourage their excellencies, Mr Akinci and Mr Anastasiades, to continue working tirelessly towards finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issues as soon as possible for the benefit of all Cypriots,”
