Nigeria marks 500 days since Chibok girls kidnapping

Aug 31, 2015 Nigeria recently marked 500 days since the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in the northeastern town of Chibok by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The mass abduction brought the Islamist group to international prominence and prompted a viral media outcry demanding the release of the girls with personalities such as US First Lady Michelle Obama and Angelina Jolie throwing their weight behind the campaign.

According to reports, over 50 of the girls have successfully escaped the abductors camp, however the where about of the rest is yet to be known. The sect, whose name literally translates: “Western education is sinful”, has killed thousands and displaced about 1.5 million people over the course of their six-year campaign to carve out an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.

The commemoration will feature a march by the Bring back our girls group and a candle-lit procession.

According to Bukky Shonibare, the media coordinator of the initiative, the group recently met with President Muhammandu Buhari to request for the immediate rescue of the girls.

On the positive side, the joint military action between Nigeria and its neighboring countries has succeeded in driving the Islamic sect from most of the regions they controlled earlier this year.

However more needs to be done as several rounds of negotiations with Boko Haram have failed, essentially because the group has different factions.

South Sudan president signs peace deal despite concerns

Aug 31, 2015 South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir, recently signed an IGAD proposed peace deal to end a 2 year old conflict with rebels in Africa youngest nation.

President Salva Kiir had previous asked for more time for consultations last week; an action that attracted sanctions threats from the United Nations, should he fail to sign the agreement within a two-week deadline.

Speaking at the deal signing ceremony in Juba, President Kiir expressed his reservations over the terms of the deal, but went on to solicit the support of the regional leaders in the implementation thereof.

“We will sign these documents, but I warn you, you regional leaders to stand with us in the implementation, otherwise we may spoil it if it is left to us. There is now fighting today and that fighting was uncalled for. The commanders fighting in the field, what do they want to achieve or what do they want to show us? The message is very clear, that what we are doing here is not accepted by the other side,” Kiir said.

The peace deal came on the back of several broken ceasefire deals and months of negotiations, hosted by Ethiopia.

Rebel leader Riek Machar, who is expected to become the First Vice President under the deal, had endorsed the document last week in Addis Ababa despite voicing concerns over the aspects of power sharing.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, responded to the South Sudanese leaders saying:

“I know some have reservations. I will appeal to you to set aside those reservations, to look at the greater picture, to look at the people that you lead, to look at the need for peace, to look at the need for unity,” Kenyatta said.

Trump widens lead in polls, calls washington politicians "impotent"

Aug 31, 2015 During an election rally in Iowa, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump publicized his growing lead in the polls while launching a blistering critique at his rivals for being career politicians, calling them “impotent” in the process.

“I don’t know, there’s something about Washington. They look at these beautiful buildings, these beautiful halls and all of a sudden they become impotent. Is that an appropriate word? I think so. They become, just, it doesn’t work. Put those two together. Something happens to them. And all of a sudden they’re not fighters. I think they’re so impressed, they show their wives, look where I’m working, I’m working in congress. Of course I’ve got to vote for Obamacare, isn’t it wonderful? Look what I’m doing. But they got elected to knock it out. What happened to these people? What happened?” he said.

While addressing a crowd in Dubuque, Trump made reference to a recent Gravis poll that puts him nearly thirty points ahead of his nearest rival nationally.

“The Gravis national poll just came out – 40.1 percent, that’s national. 40.1 percent. I want the election tomorrow.”

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released recently, Republican Jeb Bush’s support has slipped in the race for the party’s presidential nomination with Trump opening a 20-point lead over his closest rivals.

Contrary to the expectations of the Republican establishment, Trump’s support in the poll has largely held steady or grown, fueled essentially by his image as a maverick who speaks his mind and stands up to authority.

“That is understood, that we had difficulties with the Champions’ League qualification,” he said. “But maybe it is always this way in the Champions’ League. So I am very happy that we managed to take over the match that was going badly, and show the character, skills, persistence, will. I am very grateful to the guys for what they have done.”

On the other end of the field, Sporting boss Jorge Jesus was also full of praises for the Russian side, but however blamed referee Pavel Kralovec for his side’s defeat.

“We were playing with a good, powerful team,” he said. “Sporting is a good team and CSKA is a good team. Of course, both teams had chances and were very eager to enter the main draw. But in this case I can say that refereeing in both matches had negative effect on the performance of our team and I will stand by these words.”

So underwear, clothing and the new fragrance you have to try – it’s called Bold.”
